The Hermit's Grove Community
Rowan Tree Activities at The Hermit’s Grove on Rose Hill in Kirkland, Washington
Our Church’s center is The Hermit’s Grove, which provides educational and administrative resources for our organization. For people able to participate in person, we provide rituals and classes sponsored by The Rowan Tree Church and The Hermit’s Grove. The Rowan Tree Church is structured so that it will evolve into an organization of ‘communities’ and solitaires who live in many parts of our continent, united by The Tradition of Lothloriën. Since relocating the Rowan Tree to Kirkland from Minneapolis in 1994 we have had a number of small communities come and go over the years as people explore our tradition, move in and out of the region, and we often have a family-like environment at our gatherings. We welcome those who wish to make The Tradition of Lothloriën their Wiccan path.
Rowan Tree and Hermit’s Grove functions take place at our private home which includes a 1.3 acre sanctuary for nature spirits and ritual space. At present we have over 20 Members who live in western Washington but distance and lifestyles keep many functioning as solitaires, held together through our monthly newsletter and other Rowan Tree functions. Our primary community includes all who have membership in the Rowan Tree, no matter where they live.
Once a year we hold an annual retreat (here two years and every third year at Yellowstone National Park). We do not seek to be a large organization but prefer to seek quality of membership. The majority of Rowan Tree Members have been associated with the Church for many years. Our goal here at the Grove is not to be a large organization but one in which those who are involved share a commitment to The Tradition of Lothloriën, to the Rowan Tree’s survival, and enjoy each other’s companionship at Church functions.
Local activities for Members include a Sunday Circle on the first Sunday of
each month at 9:00 a.m., Full Moon and Sabbat Rituals for Members, the Annual
Retreat and other activities.
The Sunday Circle is a time for discussion, bring questions, and to learn more about The Tradition of Lothloriën in a small, informal environment. As the Wheel of the Years has turned, attendance may be just the two of us and is sometimes a full classroom. We do ask that those who are not Members and wish to attend as guests confirm their intent to attend prior to the Sunday. Please contact us by email. Include a day time phone number if possible so we can confirm your reservation.
The Hermit’s Grove, a small non-profit organization managed out of our home, provides housing for the Church’s Subscription Library (a collection of several thousand books) and manages educational programs which I have developed over the past decades, ranging from botanical medicine to herbal magick. We have extensive herb and perennial gardens plus a magickal woodland. The Hermit’s Grove includes other studies such as tarot and astrology. We have volunteer programs ranging from internships in the herbal gardens to a ‘woodland elf’ project which helps maintain the Memorial Grove.
If you would like further information, would like to attend a Sunday Circle or simply come out to meet us and have your questions answered, please feel welcome to contact us with your questions or to arrange a time. We have a mailing list for folk in Washington. Please be assured that addresses are never shared.
